For
more than 125 years, visitors have been warmly welcomed to Saint Dominic's
Home and, today, we welcome you. Beginning with Mother Mary Ann Sammon,
an Irish immigrant and founder of the Sisters of Saint Dominic of
Blauvelt, NY, children of all ages have been welcomed to a place where
they will be protected, cherished and nurtured, a place that they
can call home... Saint Dominic's Home.
Our mission at Saint Dominic's is to meet the needs of individuals
and families of all backgrounds who are developmentally disabled,
socially disadvantaged and, or, vocationally challenged. Today, more
than 800 creative and generous staff members continue the legacy of
the Blauvelt Dominican Sisters by caring for more than 2,000 children,
adolescents, adults and families through our services and programs
in the Bronx and the lower Hudson Valley, New York.
Saint Dominic's cares for children with special needs born into families
shattered by violence, neglect and abandonment, and the devastating
effects of poverty. Some of our children come to us with severe emotional
disabilities. They are educated in our schools and some are sheltered
in our foster boarding homes. Children and adults with a broad spectrum
of developmental disabilities are served in our programs and residences.
Adolescents at risk, adults with mental illness and preschoolers living
in impoverished areas are welcomed.
As you visit Saint Dominic's Home, through the benefit of our web
site, you will learn about the diverse and compelling programs that
exist to benefit our children, adolescents and adults in need, and
their families.
Please explore our Home... its children and programs; discover the
opportunities and ways that you can join us... as a volunteer, as
a donor, or even as a member of our staff. After your visit, I hope,
for the sake of the children, you will want to join us in our efforts.
Enjoy your visit. God bless you and welcome to Saint Dominic's!
