Frequently Asked Questions
Do I get my own room?
No. In most instances you’ll have to share a room with another person of the same sex. There are a limited number of single rooms in our community residences that are assigned to consumers who have demonstrated that they warrant the additional privacy.
In our supported housing program most of our consumers live alone. The choice is theirs.
Are there house rules?
There are rules that will be explained to you during the intake process. We have very basic rules, such as: no smoking in the house/apartment, no alcohol or drug use, participation in an approved day program (school or work), no over time visitors. We do have a code of conduct policy that we expect all consumers to follow.
How long is the waiting list?
That is difficult to determine since it varies at different times. The wait time to enter one of our programs could be as short as two weeks or as long as three months.
Do I need to have a job to get into the Supported Housing Program?
No, but it is expected that you are actively seeking employment or attending an approved educational program.
How many people live in the residence?
Bluefields-8, Addeo-14, Lakewood-14 and Supported Housing-25 -- consumers in 22 different apartments.
Can I have my car?
Yes and it must be registered and insured in New York State.
What are the admission criteria?
You must be at least 18 years of age, an approved mental health diagnosis, and have secured entitlements prior to placement. (Social Security Income, Social Security Disability, Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, etc,).
How long can a person remain in the program?
All of the residential services are transitional and all residents are encouraged to work toward total independence whenever possible. All residents are given an ample amount of time to progress to their fullest potential and hopefully to a high functioning level of independence.
