Blauvelt-based Saint Dominic’s Home today announced it has been awarded Praesidium Accreditation by Praesidium, Inc., the leader in abuse risk management. Praesidium Accreditation is a prestigious honor that publicly demonstrates to consumers (people served by the agency) —and insurance underwriters—that Saint Dominic’s Home has worked to achieve the highest industry standards in abuse prevention. The nonprofit social services agency Saint Dominic’s Home, under the leadership of Executive Director Judith Kydon, provides services and programs to more than 2,400 individuals, many of whom are children, and families of all backgrounds that are developmentally disabled, socially disadvantaged and, or, vocationally challenged in the Lower Hudson Valley and New York City. “For 133 years those in need, especially the most vulnerable in society, have entrusted their safety and well-being to Saint Dominic’s Home,” said Ms. Kydon.“Abuse prevention has and will continue to be our highest priority at every level of our organization. It is with great honor to accept Praesidium Accreditation on behalf of our 800-plus employees and the people we serve.” Praesidium Accreditation provides solid proof of sound risk management practices and the honor distinguishes Saint Dominic’s Home from others in its industry. To attain accreditation, Saint Dominic’s Home underwent a rigorous risk assessment to review and scrutinize eight primary operational areas within its business including: policies, screening and selection, training, monitoring and supervision, consumer participation, feedback systems, responding and administrative systems. Among Saint Dominic’s Home’s ongoing operational practices are criminal background and sex offender registry checks and extensive screening of all applicants and ongoing training and monitoring. The agency’s assessment results were benchmarked against The Safety Equation™—800 best practice standards and empirically based data collection methods to assess the risk of abuse in an organization. Saint Dominic’s Home will retain the Praesidium Accreditation for three years, and during this time will uphold fundamental organizational values and stringent safety practices that demonstrate its commitment to protecting those in its care from abuse.
